Conservatives: Cutting the jobs tax, creating more jobs, securing Britain's future

See video

Serving Somerset residents is our number one priority at both local and national levels.

Thanks to our hard-working candidates, supported by teams of volunteers, we had a strong performance at the County Council elections in May last year. The people of Somerset endorsed the Conservative Administration's last four years running County Hall, including the tough decisions made to pay back the Lib Dems £350 million debt legacy they left in 2009. We remain committed to making every pound go further and providing good services to those who need them.

Our next political challenge are the European elections on 22 May. Two of our enthusiastic Members of the European Parliament, Ashley Fox and Julie Girling, are seeking re-election, alongside Double Olympic Gold Medallist James Cracknell OBE, former diplomat Georgina Butler, entrepreneur and businesswoman Sophia Squire and civil servant Melissa Maynard. Find out more here.

There are five parliamentary constituencies in the county. Four of these currently have Liberal Democrat MPs, and one has a Conservative MP, Ian Liddell-Grainger. Our prospective MPs are David Warburton in Somerton & Frome, Rebecca Pow in Taunton Deane, James Heappey in Wells and Marcus Fysh in Yeovil.

As well as electing Members of Parliament, Somerset will also be electing District and Borough Councillors in May 2015. The Conservatives are the leading party in local government in the county, running Mendip, Sedgemoor, Taunton Deane, and West Somerset local authorities, as well as the County Council.
