LIB DEM COUNCIL TAX HYPOCRISY (21/12/04)

Here is yet another example of Liberal Democrat hypocrisy: Locally, they are saying that Council Tax should be scrapped. But in Scotland they are saying exactly the opposite!

On 18th March this year, in the Scottish Parliament, the Liberal Democrats and Labour voted against an SNP motion that ‘the Parliament believes that the council tax should be abolished and replaced with a fair system of local income taxation based on ability to pay’. They justified this by saying that ‘people on low incomes already get help to pay their council tax’.

What a contrast, but typical of Liberal Democrat double-speak.

Local Liberal Democrats know that what has upset the electorate are the large increases in Council Tax. In Somerset they have rocketed by 79% in 7 years. Local Income Tax is no more than a smoke screen to hide their own failings.
