LIB DEMS SHOULD CONCENTRATE ON SOMERSET - Letter (21/01/05)

Sir, I have read a Lib Dem county councillor's response* to my fellow Conservative councillor's comments on Council Tax. No wonder the Lib Dem Somerset County Council cannot see the wood from the trees. He should concentrate on Somerset County Council, where there is plenty to be done. He should grow up and not try to score petty political points by comparisons with selected other authorities. We all can do that. He overlooks for example the fact that the only authority in Somerset to be graded Excellent in 2004 by the Audit Commission was the Conservative controlled Taunton Deane.

Furthermore, the Audit Commission in a recent report concluded that Conservative Councils cost less, provide a higher level of service and receive the best satisfaction rates. No wonder there are 150 Conservative run authorities and only 32 suffering under Lib Dem control.

Yours faithfully,

Christopher Wolverson

Leader Conservative Group Somerset County Council
