Request to the PM
Cllr Ken Maddock, Leader of the Conservatives at County Hall, has written to the Prime Minister urgently requesting a Referendum, as Labour promised, on the Lisbon Treaty.
Unable to gain cross-party support as he had hoped, the Group Leader has set out his prime concerns to Gordon Brown in relation to the transfer of power on vital issues for Britain such as immigration, asylum, prison sentencing and the NHS.
Ken says: 'Once we have signed these away, we will never be able to regain these powers. Gordon Brown should stand by his promise and put this extremely important issue to the people.'
