By Election in May
There is to be a by election in the Mendip North East division of Somerset County Council.
The retiring councillor, Michael St John, has not enjoyed the best of health in recent times. This has made it difficult for him to carry out his duties as fully as he would have wished. In spite of this he was hoping to see out his term of office, but it has proved impossible. We wish him well in his early retirement.
We recognise the importance of local people having proper representation, and there will now be a by election to find a successor. Local Conservatives are in the process of selecting a candidate for that election and the candidate’s name will be announced shortly.
At the last election the voting was:-
Labour 747
Liberal Democrat 1767
Conservative 2002
Conservative majority of 235
Mendip North East comprises the villages of Norton St Philip, Telisford, Lullington, Rode, Beckington, Berkley, Hemington, Buckland Dinham, Great Elm, Whatley, Mells & Coleford.
