Sudden death of local Councillor
Councillor Stephen Robinson
It was with great sadness that the death of Councillor Stephen Robinson, member for Shepton Mallet, was announced last week.
Stephen suffered a heart attack and died at Yeovil Hospital on Thursday 3rd April 2008.
Colleagues paid tribute to the hardworking and popular county councillor who also served on Mendip District and Shepton Mallet town councils.
Ken Maddock, Leader of the Conservative Group at Somerset County Council, said: 'Stephen was well respected in Shepton Mallet and was tireless in fighting for the interests of the town he loved. His energy and enthusiasm were remarkable. His sense of humour was well known and diffused many a difficult situation. We have lost a colleague and a friend. Our sympathy, respect and best wishes go to his widow, Margaret.'
A green burial has been arranged for 1000hrs on Wednesday 16th April at Glastonbury Cemetery followed by a Service of Thanksgiving on Wednesday 23rd April at 1430hrs at St. Peter and St. Paul Church, Shepton Mallet.
No flowers please but donations towards the planting of cherry trees in Collett Park, Shepton Mallet, may be made to Messrs Unwins, Funeral Directors, The Firs, Underwood, Wookey Hole Road, Wells, BA5 1AF.
