Lib Dem Group Leader Defects to Tories
Danny Titcombe, the Leader of the Lib Dems on Sedgemoor District Council, has dramatically crossed the floor to join the Conservatives.
Representing the Highbridge Ward, Cllr Titcombe has been unhappy with his old party for some time, both locally and nationally. Danny said:'I am very happy to have joined the Conservative group on the District Council and look forward to being able to do for Highbridge what I was elected to do.'
It is understood that he has been particularly concerned with the negative stance taken by the Lib Dems on local issues, such as the swimming pool and Walrow Railway Bridge.
His defection increases the number of Conservatives on the District Council to 36 (out of 50), leaving the Lib Dems with just 3.
Danny was welcomed to the Conservative Party by local MP, Rt Hon David Heathcoat-Amory and Duncan McGinty, Leader of Sedgemoor District Council.
This is the third defection to the Conservatives of disillusioned Lib Dem councillors nationally this week. (The others are Richmond-upon-Thames and Epping Forest).
