Lib Dem council £5m adrift
Somerset
The five million pound overspend was the chilling news for the embattled Liberal Democrats who are in charge at County Hall at their recent Executive meeting.n They are only half way through the financial year.
Conservative Finance Spokesman at the County Council, David Huxtable said, This demonstrates yet again how bad the Liberal Democrats are at controlling money.n The money-men have warned them that the reserves are nearly exhausted.n They said the general contingency is extremely low and we will have to take a serious look at our contingency and reserve levels.n The Liberal Democrats cannot just go on spending like this.
Leader of the Conservative Group, Ken Maddock added, The Liberal Democrats have doubled the council tax since they have been in power.n They have received a record pay-out from central government this year.n And they have borrowed over 300 million.n But even with all this they cannot kick their spending habit.n It is reckless and it will come home to roost.n I call on the Leader of the Council to cut her coat according to her cloth.n She cannot expect the council tax payer to go picking up the tab any longer.
