SHADOW MINISTER CALLS FOR REDUCTION OF DEBT IN SOMERSET

Caroline Spelman, MP, took time out of her day yesterday to meet with Conservative Councillors in Somerset.

Visiting Somerset for the Southwest Launch of the Conservative Party's European Manifesto, the Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government met with Conservative County Councillors to support their campaign for the County Council elections on June 4th.

Ken Maddock, Conservative Group Leader on Somerset County Council spent time with the MP, and commented afterwards, "I am pleased to have welcomed the Shadow Local Government Secretary to Somerset, and was very interested to hear of her plans for local government under a Conservative administration. She agreed with me that the level of public debt is unacceptable and needs to be drastically reduced. Both Labour nationally and Lib Dems in Somerset are out of touch and out of money, and it is time to vote them out of office.''

Notes to Editors: the Lib Dems have trebled the debt at County Hall in the last 6 years to £317million; that's £1,505 for every household in Somerset.
