LIB DEMS' BROKEN MANIFESTO PROMISES

Conservatives in Somerset today unveiled a list of 9 broken promises from the Lib Dems since their 2005 election manifesto.

These range from issue as diverse as education, roads and libraries, and highlight the number of areas in which the Lib Dems have failed the people of Somerset.

Announcing the list of broken promises, Ken Maddock, Conservative Group Leader on Somerset County Council, said, "This monument to Lib Dem failure should show the people of Somerset where the current Lib Dem administration at County Hall has let them down. We were promised at least 4 new libraries in Somerset, but have 0. They said that they'd fix our roads, but they've never been in a worse state. We were promised increased school achievement, yet our GCSE results fall consistently below the national average.''

"The list goes on, and does not include the £25million lost in Icelandic banks, the doubling of Council Tax in 12 years, or the trebling of debt in the last 6 years, all done by the Lib Dems.''

He concluded, "It is clear that the Lib Dems care more about chasing gold stars issued by the discredited Labour government than about providing services to residents throughout Somerset. Conservatives have got their priorities right, and will focus solely on providing high-quality, efficient services for all people of Somerset.''
