FAILED TARGETS AT COUNTY HALL (14/11/02)

A report to Somerset County Council’s Executive Board has revealed that Lib Dems have failed to meet their own targets. Conservatives at County Hall are worried by the figures in the Performance Monitoring Report.

Of Lib Dem targets, 40 were met and 42 were missed. 5 were missed by more than 15 per cent. More than half of education performance targets were missed. Out of 27 education targets, Liberal Democrats met only 10. (See table below)

Conservative spokesman for Education, Christopher Wolverson commented, ‘I am alarmed by these figures. Spending on education has increased significantly. There is a lack of general direction and appropriate allocation of resources to address the priorities. The missed targets appear to prove this.’
