In an exciting new move voters in the Taunton Deane constituency are being invited to help choose the new Conservative challenger in this key constituency. Taunton Deane Conservatives have decided to choose a “primary” selection process which will enable every registered voter to apply to attend the selection meeting, given an opportunity to quiz candidates and vote on who the Conservative candidate should be.
The meeting will be held on Monday 15th July at a central Taunton venue. Doors will open at 6pm and the meeting will start at 7pm. To attend electors will need to preregister either by emailing name, address and contact details to office@tauntonconservatives.org.uk or ringing 01823 286106. Registration will close at noon on Friday 12th July. There is a maximum safe seating capacity at the venue and once full registrations will close.
David Hedderwick, Chairman of Taunton Deane Conservatives, comments;
“We are opening up our selection process because we genuinely want to engage with all parts of the constituency and involve as many people as possible in choosing our next candidate, who we want to be our next MP. Whether you live in Wiveliscombe or Wellington, Taunton or Trull, whether you have voted Conservative, voted for someone else or not voted at all we want include you in this process.”
“By including offering as many places as possible to Taunton Deane voters in the selection we want to ensure we choose the best candidate and give them the strongest possible start in their campaign to win back this important seat. By choosing a primary we are demonstrating that as a Party, here in Taunton, we want to hear from everyone who, like us, lives here, cares about our local communities and the future of our country.”
Taunton Deane is one of the key electoral battlegrounds at the next General Election. With a majority of less than 4,000 the current Liberal Democrat MP is amongst the most vulnerable to a Conservative challenge.
