LETTER - Lib Dem Council Tax Rises (19/09/03)
Dear Sir,
I write in response to Liberal Democrat, Alan Gloak, who blames previous Conservative Governments for recent council tax rises. Perhaps I should point out that at Somerset County Council it is the Liberal Democrats who set the council tax. 12.9% last year. 11.9% the year before. Has his Party forgotten this already? I'm sure the taxpayer hasn't.
Conservatives have pressed for a fundamental review at County Hall, in order to keep council tax down. The Liberal Democrats must accept responsibility and stop throwing their toys out of the pram when times get tough. What they need to realise is, just because the Government has failed the people of Somerset, they don't necessarily have to follow suit.
Yours,
Allen Cotton.
Shadow spokesperson for Finance
Somerset County Council.
