LETTER - Somerset Lib Dem's tax axe (29/09/03)

Dear Sir,

I read with interest the Liberal Democrat propaganda on council tax. They are already blaming the Government for a council tax rise this year, without even knowing what the settlement will be. They have done this year on year. Their desire for publicity cannot mask the fact that since they came to power in Somerset, they have put council tax up by 70%. Each household is paying an extra £400. Lib Dems are powerless to do anything nationally so they opt for shameless publicity stunts. I don't think many will be fooled by this latest campaign. Lib Dems set the council tax in Somerset. Why don't they do what the Conservatives have been suggesting for years and cut out some bureaucracy?
