LETTER - Poor County Record (26/09/04)

I was bewildered by a Liberal Democrat councillor's claim in the Taunton Times Letters Page for credit for his party's part in the excellent grading recently awarded to the Conservative run Taunton Deane District Council. Whilst I fully appreciate that it is a team effort, I do find the assertion a trifle bizarre.

If he would to turn his attention to the County Council where he is also supposed to be a councillor, he would find that this authority was graded only fair - one from bottom - when inspected two years ago by the Audit Commission. This was after 10 years of Liberal Democrat administration. I can assure him and your readers neither I nor any member of the Conservative Group on the County Council claim any part in this sad reflection of his party's record in County Hall.
