Conservatives share your values - we will put local people first
-
Conservatives will do what we say - we are clear about what we stand for
-
Conservatives are competent and capable - we have strong and charismatic leadership

But I voted Lib Dem last time; why should I change?
- Conservatives will hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. All parties promised it - only we will do it
- David Cameron would be a brilliant Prime Minister - he lives in the real world
- Lib Dems have got no chance of forming a government - only the Conservatives can beat Labour. Send Gordon Brown a strong message
- Conservatives are concerned about the environment - we owe it to ourselves and to our children
- Conservatives oppose identity cards - we will scrap the idea
- Conservatives get things done - we do not mess about with endless bureaucracy
Our Manifesto Pledges to the People of Somerset
-
Conservatives will not take risks with public money - if an investment sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
- Conservatives will:
- Freeze Council Tax;
- Reduce borrowing;
- Stop speculating with taxpayers' money;
- Spend less on advertising
- Conservatives support nuclear power, and the expansion at Hinkley Point, providing that it is safe and the benefits outweigh the costs. This will provide 2,500 jobs and boost the economy of Somerset, and should lead to a Centre of Excellence for the whole of the country, based here in Somerset.
- A Conservative-run County Council will address the needs of Somerset's children to give them the best chance in life.
- Conservatives will not abandon the vulnerable and disadvantaged, and will put local people's needs and interests first.
- Conservatives will rescue our roads and make Somerset a better place to work and live.
- Conservatives will ensure local representation and democracy by working with local councils, rather than abolishing them. We will support voluntary and community groups in rural as well as in urban areas of Somerset.
The MPs' Expenses Scandal

The actions of some MPs over their expenses claims are heartily sickening and they make people feel like not voting. But there will be a new council elected on Thursday regardless and we should all play our part in choosing the members of that council.
A vote for one of the fringe parties (like UKIP or the BNP, who have no chance to form the next administration) would simply distort the true choice in Somerset which is between Conservative and Liberal Democrat. (Labour cannot win here.)
Somerset County Council has been run by the Liberal Democrats for the last sixteen years. If they haven't done it in sixteen years then they're not going to.
It's time for a change at Somerset. People are switching to Conservatives.
