Local Conservatives across Somerset are calling for local people to sign the Western Gazette’s petition to get the A303 dualled.
The newspaper is aiming to get 10,000 signatures. Anyone can sign the petition by clicking HERE.
The petition comes as the campaign to dual the A303 through Somerset received a boost after the Government confirmed their support in principle for upgrading the vital road. The Government will be helping to produce a business plan for the project. A new partnership spearheaded by Somerset Conservatives, bringing together Somerset, Wiltshire and Devon councils has also been launched to ensure local people’s voices are heard.
John Osman, leader of Somerset County Council said, “For years and years local Conservatives have been calling for the dualling of the A303. We have recognised the economic and safety benefits that dualling would bring. Improving major roads will bring a big boost to local businesses and communities.”
Yeovil resident, businessman and regular user of the A303 David Byrne added, “It is thanks to the Conservative-led Government and County Council that we are making progress. The Lib Dems, including the Yeovil MP David Laws, chose to upgrade the A358 over the A303.”
