When they were last in charge of Somerset’s finances the Liberals Democrats borrowed £350 million, which means that Somerset residents are paying £100,000 a day to service this debt. That’s the annual salary of 3 social workers, spent every day on paying for the debt!

Whilst the country has tried to balance the books, the council has unfortunately seen its finances reduced by £140 million of budget reductions.

Investing in Somerset’s roads and infrastructure

Over the past four years the Conservative led County Council have filled 78,000 potholes, surface dressed 3,976 miles of road and salted 232,000 miles during the winter  periods. In addition there has been significant investment into roads in Yeovil, Taunton and Bridgwater.

Following the devastating floods of 2014 Somerset Conservatives created and established the Somerset Rivers Authority. The partnership addresses the difficult flooding challenges, which face the County and all its residents.
